Rainbow Rice sensory game for kids
The rascals absolutely love playing with rainbow rice. It's a messy play activity that we return to time and time again. Now that they're a bit older, they both really enjoy helping to make it too. We usually make lots of different colors and when it's ready, one of the top moments for the rascals, is pouring into their sensory trays and mixing it all up. They love to get their tea party set involved with this play, pouring it and mixing it into different vessels as they go.
This time I thought it would be fun to add some old makeup brushes to the tray, which they immediately picked up and used to sweep the rice around. I thought this could be a good challenge, so I used a framed white board, drew some squares and asked the girls to sweep the rice into them. It was a bit of target practice I suppose.
I thought it was a great way to develop some fine motor skills, and it was interesting watching how they approached the activity; using different strokes and speeds to manipulate the brushes and rice around the tray.
